Hurrem Sultan Hammam (Haseki Hammam) was designed by the renowned Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan in the 16th century. It was built at the request of Hurrem Sultan, the wife of Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.
For centuries, the hammam was closed and repurposed for other uses. In 2007, it was beautifully renovated and reopened to the public as a functioning hammam.
Featuring a double hammam layout, with separate areas for men and women, and a 75-meter-long structure, its design stands apart from classical Ottoman architecture. As part of the renovation, the hammam enhanced its elegance by covering the traditional hammam bowls in gold for its visitors.
The place is amazing and the treatment is nice. However, too expensive for only 45mins. The basic service is 90€ for 45 minutes treatment and they had you 10 minutes softening your skin, they kept as over 20 so the massage time was notoriously reduced. As we said it in reception, they offered to give that time of massage back. It was a nice solution although one of our masseuses wasn’t happy about it. It’s just a shame that we had to complain after the high amount you pay. Equally, if there is a group of people in the hamam and they talk the echo is too loud and doesn’t allow you to relax, it would be nice to have signs with ‘silent’, the 10 minutes extra to compensate were fantastic as it was completely quiet.
The first time I experienced this was in the winter and early morning. It was the most luxurious pampering of my life. I went back for a second time yesterday for the same Ab-I hayat package and I was disappointed. The girl left me alone most of the time, she did a super fast massage at most for like 30 min during the hammam and then a very fast paced 1 hour massage after (rabia was the masseuse’s name). They increased the prices by almost 100 euros too. Not worth the price, the quality has gone down.
I’d still recommend going and getting the basic packages because that’s the experience I got in the luxury package.
Incredible experience at Hurrem Sultan Hammam right by Aya Sofia.
My therapist Dilek was INCREDIBLE.
We booked the €180 experience that included the scrub and the massage. It lasted less than 2h with Turkish Tea/coffee relaxing breaks in between.
No pictures of videos allowed in the Hamam only in the lounge area without people.
